          Graham Cawthon in Winthrop

Winthrop University accommodated Wednesday 4th march, Graham Cawthon, at the occasion of the Mass Com Week.

Graham Cawthon started as a reporter in October 2005, and recently took over as city editor for The Star.
He talked about his job and he explained to students and professors the difference between broadcast and print within journalism.
According to its experience, it seemed interesting for him to notice that print and broadcast have the same aim: to catch the audience

Graham gave some advices to achieve this aim in the two different kinds of journalism :
So:  How to catch the reader's attention?
                              - To find the best adapted means to the different kind of support. For instance, broadcaster could use sound, pictures, while the printer would play with words to catch the viewer.
                             - To convey 'hot' news, because it's more attractive for the reader.
                             - To update news all the time because if it's not the case, the readers could be borring  and he would prefer to find an other information source.

Moreover, Graham Cawthon gives its point of view about the social network and he explains that nowadays, it is a good mean for readers and journalists to create some interactions. Actually, through some groups on Facebook, or some topic on blogs, journalist could find what are subjects interesting for readers, and readers could give their opinion about some eporting for instance.
